LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - UPDATE: The Lansing Police Department has identified the two homicide victims as:

19-year- old Damon L. Johnson and 16-year-old Marshawn M. Beard both of Lansing.

Two people are dead and two more are hospitalized after an early morning shooting near Lansing River Trail.

At approximately 1 a.m. Monday, Lansing Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 300 block of North Cedar St near Rotary Park. Officers arrived and found a 19-year-old male with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

A 14-year-old female shooting victim was also found at the scene. She was transported to a local hospital and is listed as stable.

While investigating the scene, officers were told of two additional victims who arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. A 16-year-old male succumbed to those injures and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 17-year-old male listed as stable.

Lansing Mayor Andy Schor released a statement following the violent weekend saying in part:

“The recent shootings at Oak Park and Rotary Park are yet another example of unacceptable acts of gun violence. We have seen an increase in gun violence throughout the past year, nationally and here in Lansing. Illegal guns are a threat to all and there are far too many shootings as a result. I take the increase in gun violence very seriously.”

Schor announced the creation of a Gun Violence Task Force to address the issue head-on in the city. The Gun Violence Task Force will develop, implement, and strengthen the City of Lansing’s efforts to reduce gun violence.

LPD and crime scene investigators are actively investigating to further determining the events that led up to the shooting. No arrests have been made yet.
